His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America has presented Father Luke with a specially adorned epigonation bearing the sacred image of Saint Luke the Evangelist, in celebration of the priest's nameday.

The gift was offered as a personal gesture of appreciation and brotherly affection from the Archbishop, commemorating Father Luke's heavenly patron and his dedication to ecclesiastical service.

The presentation coincides with the Orthodox Church's commemoration of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist Luke, traditionally observed on October 18.

A gift honoring Saint Luke the Evangelist

The epigonation, a diamond-shaped liturgical vestment worn by bishops and certain priests in the Orthodox Church, bears an iconographic representation of Saint Luke, one of the Four Evangelists and the traditional author of the Gospel according to Luke and the Acts of the Apostles.

Within Orthodox liturgical tradition, the epigonation is associated with the spiritual sword of the Word of God, recalling the responsibility of the clergy to proclaim and defend the teachings of the Church.

By presenting an epigonation depicting Father Luke's patron saint, Archbishop Elpidophoros offered a gift carrying both personal and liturgical significance.

Recognition of priestly service

The presentation also marked an expression of the close relationship between the Archbishop and the clergy serving within the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.

Nameday celebrations hold a special place in Orthodox Christian life, commemorating the saint whose name a Christian bears and encouraging the faithful to follow that saint's example of holiness and devotion to Christ.

For Father Luke, the occasion brought together the commemoration of his patron saint and the receipt of a liturgical vestment from His Eminence.

The gesture forms part of the continuing ecclesiastical life of GOARCH, where the observance of Orthodox feasts, clerical traditions, and personal commemorations remains an established practice.
